Flowing water connects all of nature in it's eternal cycle. Freshwater not only constitutes an environment in itself but
also acts as the life blood of the terrestrial environment. Even when we leave sight of flowing water, ground water
accumulates in aquifers beneath us, transpiration takes place all around us, and air currents move tons of water far
above our heads. Natural energies eventually coalesce all airborne ambient water into tiny runoff flowages, first order
brooks, and later into the large streams and rivers we'd recognize by name. The waters that flow across the face of
the earth take on strange and varied forms, creating a myriad of habitat niches for the millions of life forms requiring
fresh water for their survival.
When I began to learn photography I started by taking pictures of what I knew, namely the fresh water
environments. My hope is that these samples of my work will inspire curiosity about the plants and animals depicted,
perhaps even bringing interest in further study. My shots of the water and nearby shore and riparian areas
demonstrate the diversity of those ecosystems which may be classified as aquatic. If there were no greater purpose
for my work, I would still share these images of the beauty and diversity that brings me back to the water day by
day, year after year. Incidentally, I also love to fish, as my galleries will demonstrate.
